Purpose and Positioning

I love the concept of “Who you are is why you are here.”

What is your message to the world?
What are you waiting on?
What is the difference you were born to make?
Who could benefit from you?

I have just spent two days with our Black Belt community discussing these concepts. For many of us, it’s our third or fourth time around the block on these discussions.

Being a thought leader is a constant game of ‘"pass the parcel” - you move through clusters, thinking, selling, and delivering and the layers come off.

The thing you thought you were 'about' will change. The ideal markets for your message will change. It’s a game of constant change - I’m not sure you are ever done until you are ‘done’!

Your life is full of clues.

The work you have done.
The places you have been.
The things you have worked through.
The experiences you have had.
The stories you have collected.

For the past 8 weeks, I have been running a positioning elective at Thought Leaders Business School.

Positioning is about how to capture, package, and deliver yourself to the world. How to get known for knowing something. It’s about being seen, being memorable, and being deliberate about how you are showing up.

Part one is Capture: to work on clarity.
What do you do?
Who are you?
Why are you here?

Part two is Package: to work on decisions.
Decide how you turn up.
Choose how you are seen.
Create yourself.

Part three is Deliver: to work on action.
Make choices about how you turn up.
Bring your best self.
Be obsessive and precise about your positioning.

I’ll leave you with these four big questions...

Who are you?
Why you are here?
Who knows?
Who cares?
