Trust

Written by Lisa O'Neill - CEO | 12 May 2022

Trust is fundamental to having a good life. If you can't trust people, you can't trust yourself. Not trusting the world is an awful way to live.

No time to read the blog? You can listen to it here.

I have a lot of faith in myself. So far, I've survived every incident I've been involved in, and I'm still alive. Just as you too have survived everything that life has thrown at you so far. So on that basis, I reckon you will be able to handle anything else that comes your way.

"Fear is a lack of trust in ourselves, and because of this, we don’t trust life. We don’t trust that we’re being taken care of on a higher level, so we feel we must control everything from the physical level." - Louise Hay

I don’t think we give ourselves enough credit for our ability to cope and to handle life. We brush it off and don’t acclaim our awesomeness.

Years ago at a live Immersion, Matt Church declared that everyone in the room had something amazing about them. Something unique that they are often not even aware of. I was sitting beside Donna McGeorge and she asked, "So what is amazing about you, Lisa?" To which I replied, "Everything." Poor Donna nearly swallowed her tongue!

Imagine being audacious enough to say that everything about you was amazing? The thing is, I totally believe it; I do think I am amazing. Actually, I reckon all humans are amazing. The fact that our toenails keep growing is, in itself, incredible. Some days, the very fact that we keep on going when life seems so hard is amazing.

My life is pretty awesome. I have spent years carving and smoothing my life into the sculpture that I want to live in. It is the life by design promise of Black Belt. I work with who I want, I do what I want, and live how I want. And yet it is not always easy. I have days that are AMAZING and days that are amazing.

We need to work on the theory that every day is amazing. If you are vertical, dressed, have left the house, and are doing something to contribute to the betterment of your family or society (my definition of ‘work’), then you are winning. If you land a huge sale, deliver something magical, have a fun time with friends, or get to witness your child doing something they love, then that takes the day to next level AMAZING.

I am a big fan of telling people what I think is amazing about them. Not what they need to improve on. In a world where we live with constant ‘to-do’ lists of self-improvement, it’s nice to sit back and allow ourselves to absorb our awesomeness. To marinate in the feeling of doing well. It builds our confidence. It enables us to trust our abilities more.

PS. I think you are amazing.
