Money

There is a lot of shame around the subject of money. People are very weird about talking about debt and income and levels of wealth. It seems ridiculous to me that most humans interact with money every single day, and yet we hardly ever discuss it. It is not something that most people are comfortable talking about.

When I joined Thought Leaders Business School in 2014 I was very confronted by all the money conversations. Hanging out with people who talked openly about what they earned, how much they charged, and how much they were worth was a game-changer for me. I was, for the first time in my life, having real and open conversations about money.

Having been self-employed and utterly unaccountable to anyone for over 20 years, I needed to lift my game. I had no idea what I was earning or where my money was going. I was the "Queen of Irresponsible"!

Things needed to change! I realised how much energy I was burning, waking up in the night worried about debt and panicking about the lack of consistency that self-employment creates. I was generally making life hard by not having the right systems, advice or knowledge about how to do this money!

I started tracking my income and expenses, I tracked my sales and my delivery - it actually felt good to be accountable.

With today being the start of the Australian Financial year for 2022 - it's a great time to give yourself a fresh start financially.

Step 1: Address your stress. What problems do you have with money?
Step 2: Get clear about where you are at. What do you owe? What do you need to do?
Step 3: Get honest. Stop kidding yourself and pretending that all is well if it's not!
Step 4: Get help. Find someone to assist you. Do you need a good accountant? Do you need a financial adviser?
Step 5: Get some goals. How much do you want to earn in the next 12 months? What do you need to do to achieve this?

Money is a means of exchange. It is energy. Not being in charge of this 'energy' will block your potential and limit the impact that you can have in the world.

Make this year your year!
