For us, a black belt is not just a revenue goal of our practices; it's a way of life where we merge being self-expressed in service to others and being rewarded for doing so.
Listen to the blog here.
I am in Queenstown, New Zealand, with a dozen Thought Leader Black Belts. Each person here has achieved at least $720,000 annually running a commercially successful thought leader practice. We don't need to discuss business exclusively; each high performer here knows what they are doing. Instead, we are talking about life, making a difference and encouraging each other to expand our view of what's possible. For us, a black belt is not just a revenue goal of our practices; it's a way of life where we merge being self-expressed in service to others and being rewarded for doing so. It's a way of working where you get closer to doing work you love, with people you like, the way you want.
The 2024 Retreat Black Belt Crew with an Alpine landing before heading to a vineyard lunch.
Each Black Belt shares where they are personally and professionally, a project they have run in the last 12 months that we could all learn from, and perhaps a challenge they face. Yesterday, we had the privilege of being taken to a beautiful vineyard by chopper for lunch! It was mind-blowing. We talked about privilege over lunch, celebrating success, and all kinds of big ideas.
Jim Rohn, Tony Robbins' mentor, famously said we become the sum total of the five people we spend the most time with. As such, you would want to be inspired by the company you keep as often as possible. This mantra and intent speak to what it means to be part of a community of like-minded, high-performing individuals. Thank you to the 2024 retreat team. I loved the time together and wish such company for others.
Some prompts and nudges for those pursuing a high-performance practice:
- If you need to change your results, you may need to change your company occasionally.
- When you meet with high performers, it's way more than work. High achievers don't always need more stuff to do; often, they need a to-don't list. Talk about whole of person, professional and personal.
- Make space in your world for contemplation, inspiration, recreation, and celebration. You don't have to grind all the time.
